A Profile of William Cabeza
How Kids Grow In NYC Public Schools

Directed By: Frank Whaley
William lives with his parents, Gladys & William Sr., and two younger sisters, Tayla (10) and Alexandrea (3), right near Yankee Stadium. He graduated from C.E.S. 73 this June, where he attended with his sister.
William has been singing since he was six, and is currently studying voice and music theory with Bruno Cassallari. He is also part of Bruno's 150-person kids choir, called The Highbridge Choir. He is well versed and can sing in a plentitude of styles and languages, which include: Spanish, Italian, German, Jazz, Opera, Folk, Gospel and Pop. William has had some unusual performance opportunities, including singing with Celine Dion (Radio City Music Hall); appearing on the Jerry Lewis Telethon and David Letterman Show. Yet despite all this, these events have had very little effect on his demeanor. William is a well-adjusted, intelligent kid with a passion for learning. He will continue his public education in District 9 but hopes to get into a special music program at nearby C.I.S. 122.
In this segment, director Frank Whaley spent time with William on the day of the C.E.S. 73 Talent Show, where he performed a cappella "All My Life" by KC & JoJo. He spoke candidly about his desire to succeed in music and love for his family. On this Saturday, March 25th, 2000, we witnessed William, along with other student performers, shine in front of their parents and community - a truly inspiring and fun day.
