Baruch Volunteer Program

Volunteers from Baruch

A Focus on Literacy

Change for Kids is excited to announce our newest volunteer partnership with CUNY Baruch's Honors Program. Baruch College is ranked among the top 10% of U.S colleges and is recognized as the most ethnically diverse campus in the nation.

CFK will match Baruch Honors students with kids at P.S. 160 in Queens, P.S. 154 in Harlem, and P.S. 243 in Brooklyn. Under the careful guidance of school Literacy Specialist, Baruch volunteers will provide individualized literacy tutoring to help kids build their vocabulary and become confident readers.

During the weekly sessions, the tutors will facilitate activities focused on:
• Essential High-Frequency Vocabulary Words
• Listening Skills
• Pronunciation
• Reading

Volunteers will be expected to commit at least 2 hours per week for the duration of the semester. CFK staff and the school Literacy Specialist will continuously monitor Baruch tutors through student progress reports and homeroom teacher feedback.

To apply, please contact: Douglas Medina, Associate Director of the Baruch Honors Program douglas.medina@baruch.cuny.edu or attend one of the following information sessions at 137 East 25th street, room 306:
