Where's Frankie?

Change for Kids on Film

Directed By: Doug Liman

The Frankie Update… The original piece about Frankie Savage was born out of a segment concept based on struggling 6th grade students at P.S. 243 "Weeksville School" in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. We were surprised to find that most of the stereotyped behavior associated with failing students seemed to all slip away when Doug Liman first met Frankie Savage. He was a well-spoken, charismatic, gentle-hearted young boy with all the potential in the world. We were led into the heart and mind of this 11-year-old boy and his unique and challenging upbringing by his 80-year-old grandmother.

In this segment, Doug revisited Frankie on June 23rd, 2000 - the day of his graduation ceremony and 6th grade prom. We hear from significant figures in Frankie's life - his friends, teachers, and family - as they discuss the past school year, trials and tribulations, and most importantly, where is Frankie as his graduation is about to start? Will he even graduate? What are his plans are after graduation and which school will he be going to?

Frankie has faced some important decisions in his immediate future and we captured him at one of life's most important crossroads…his graduation.
